In my years of practice as a chiropractor, I’ve found that decompression therapy is one of the best complements to chiropractic adjustments and spinal manipulation. This combination has proven to be highly effective in treating various spinal issues, providing significant relief and faster recovery for patients.

The Synergy of Adjustments and Decompression
When we adjust patients by hand, it realigns the vertebrae and addresses subluxations. This manual adjustment is crucial for correcting misalignments in the spine. However, decompression therapy takes this a step further by applying traction that separates the vertebrae, allowing the discs to decompress and increase their space. This additional step can significantly enhance the overall treatment outcome.
The synergy between spinal adjustments and decompression therapy creates a powerful treatment regimen. Decompression helps to relieve pressure on the spinal discs, which can be particularly beneficial for patients suffering from disc problems, commonly found in the lower back and lower neck (cervical spine).
Enhanced Treatment Efficiency
Before incorporating decompression therapy into our practice, we typically required three to four months of treatments, amounting to over 36 adjustments. However, once we started using decompression therapy alongside manual adjustments, we noticed a substantial reduction in the number of adjustments needed.
Now, instead of the previous 36 or more adjustments, we can achieve similar or better results with as few as 24 to 28 adjustments. In the first month, we generally begin with three sessions per week. By the second and third months, we can reduce this to two sessions per week. Sometimes, the need for frequent adjustments decreases even further as decompression therapy enhances the effectiveness of each adjustment.
The 1-2 Combo: Adjustments and Decompression
The combination of spinal adjustments and decompression therapy is a powerful duo. This approach allows patients to experience relief more quickly and with fewer treatments.

Traditional methods, such as electrical stimulation (e-stim) and intersegmental traction (IST) tables, often require more time and more sessions to achieve the desired results.
Decompression therapy, however, shortens the recovery period, enabling patients to get out of pain and correct the underlying problem more efficiently. Truly, decompression is adjustment’s best friend.
The Role of Decompression Tables
Decompression tables are essential tools in this therapeutic approach. Common models, such as the Chattanooga Triton DTS and the DRX 9000, are highly effective for both lumbar and cervical decompression.

In our office, we have five Chattanooga Triton DTS tables, which have proven to be invaluable in providing consistent and reliable decompression therapy to our patients. Chiropractic consulting clients in our coaching program also have decompression tables in their clinics and have reaped the financial and clinical benefits of upgrading their therapy equipment.
These tables facilitate precise control over the decompression process, ensuring that each session is tailored to the patient’s specific needs. The ability to adjust the level of traction allows for a customizable treatment plan that can address a variety of spinal issues with great efficacy.
Decompression therapy has changed the way we approach spinal health. By complementing traditional chiropractic adjustments with targeted decompression, we can offer our patients a more efficient and effective treatment plan. This combination not only reduces the number of adjustments needed but also accelerates recovery and enhances overall well-being.
For anyone suffering from spinal issues, particularly those involving disc problems in the lower back and neck, decompression therapy, combined with chiropractic adjustments, offers a promising path to relief and recovery.

Investing in decompression therapy tables can make a significant difference in patient outcomes, reducing pain and improving the quality of life more quickly than traditional methods alone.
